Since The National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School(2017Edition)has been published,scholars have made more and more researches on students’ key competencies.Thinking quality is not only one of the key elements of English key competencies,but also one of the important goals of English reading teaching in senior high schools.However,the focus of today’s English reading class is still on the teaching of English language knowledge,the important task of cultivating students’ thinking ability in English class has not been achieved,and teachers have neglected the cultivation of students’ logical thinking,critical thinking and innovative thinking in class.According to this situation,based on the requirements of the new Curriculum Standard,schema theory,constructivism theory and Bloom’s taxonomy of educational objectives,in order to meet the needs of English curriculum reform,English teaching and promoting the cultivation of students’ thinking quality,300 students and 7 teachers from Wenshang Senior High School in Jining City,Shandong Province were studied by means of questionnaires,classroom observation and interviews.Students’ questionnaire mainly involves three dimensions of thinking quality: logic,criticism and innovation.Classroom observation involves the activities in the following procedures: pre-reading,while-reading and post-reading and homework.Teachers’ interview questions involve teachers’ understanding of thinking quality,the necessity and feasibility of cultivating students’ thinking quality in English reading class,the methods adopted by teachers to cultivate students’ thinking quality and the difficulties encountered in the process of cultivating students’ thinking quality at present.Students’ interview questions involve whether students like learning English,what teaching activities students like most and least,and the difficulties that students encounter in English reading class at present.Through research,the author found that the cultivation of thinking quality of high school students in Wenshang County of Jining City is still at a relatively low level at present.The overall performance of students’ thinking quality is unsatisfactory.The present performance of students’ logical thinking is the best of the three and critical thinking ability is the weakest.According to the results,the author analyzes the reasons from four aspects: students,teachers,schools and curriculum evaluation,and puts forward suggestions to further promote the cultivation of students’ thinking quality,so as to improve the present situation of poor cultivation of students’ thinking quality,improve students’ comprehensive English quality and ability,and lay a good foundation for their lifelong learning,in order to become talents meeting the needs of national development. |
