The National English Curriculum Standards of Senior High School(2017 Edition)emphasized that the English discipline should develop students’ core literacy.The thinking quality is one of the core literacy,and the development of thinking quality helps to improve students’ ability to analyze and solve problems,therefore,teachers should cultivate students’ thinking ability in reading teaching.Based on Bloom’s cognitive target system and Intelligence Theory Focusing on Thinking Structure,this study will employ a case analysis research method to answering the follow two questions:(1)What reading activities are used to cultivate the logical,critical and innovative thinking qualities in English reading teaching in high school.(2)How do teachers cultivate these thinking qualities in English reading teaching in high school.This study conducted a three-month study using classroom observation,text analysis and audio transcription,and selected four units of high school English reading teaching demonstration lesson as examples.The study found that: firstly,in the teaching of English reading in high school,teachers cultivated students’ logical thinking quality by predicting the content of the article,identifying the genre of the article,analyzing the meaning of the title,analyzing the quality of the characters,mind maps,summarizing the main idea of the passages of the article,speculating on the author’s intention,point of view and attitude,speculating on the implied meaning,and brainstorming etc.;students’ critical thinking quality was cultivated by judging the ideological views;and the students’ innovative thinking quality was cultivated by reading for writing;Secondly,by grasping the theme of reading discourse,improving the efficiency of thinking quality training;refining the process of thinking activities,guiding students to learn to think;design problems with progressive thinking levels,and pay attention to thinking quality training methods,teachers cultivate students’ logical,critical and innovative thinking qualities.Through the case study of the teaching of high school English demonstration class,this case study will help teachers to learn from the process and method of cultivating students’ thinking quality in English reading teaching,and it will provide a reference for high school English reading teaching. |
