The proper use of classroom immediate evaluation can promote students’ learning enthusiasm,and is important to the overall progress of students.In addition,the study of English teachers’ classroom immediate evaluation can enhance the quality of English teaching,and is helpful for English teachers’ professional development.Classroom observation and interview are the main research instruments to study two questions from four aspects embracing contents,timing,objects and methods:(1)What is the current situation of English teachers’ classroom immediate evaluation in junior high school?(2)What are the reasons for the current situation of English teachers’ classroom immediate evaluation in junior high school?The author observed 6 English teachers at Y Middle School in Yinchuan City for a total of 12 lessons,and interviewed the teachers with the results obtained from the observation.And the results show that: first,the evaluation of language knowledge accounts for the largest proportion of the total evaluation times,which is followed by the evaluation of language skills.The evaluations of emotional attitude and learning strategies rank third and fourth respectively.Cultural awareness is the lowest proportion of the total evaluation times.Second,98% of the evaluations are timely.Third,there is a balance of evaluation opportunities between male and female students,but teachers ignore to evaluate students with learning difficulties.Fourth,verbal evaluation accounts for a larger proportion of the total evaluations,while non-verbal evaluation accounts for a smaller proportion.And the reasons for the current situation of English teachers’ classroom immediate evaluation are: first,examination-oriented teaching leads to the concentration on the evaluations of language knowledge and language skills.Second,Teachers generally lack an understanding of the importance of delay evaluation.Third,teachers believe that male and female students are equal,while their understanding to individual students is inadequate.Fourth,most English teachers consider that verbal evaluation is more efficient.Based on the results of the research,the author provides some suggestions that can improve the effect of English teachers’ classroom immediate evaluation in junior high school.First,teachers should pay attention to improving their awareness of the importance of humanistic nature of English curriculum.Second,teachers should learn relevant theoretical knowledge about classroom immediate evaluation.Third,leaders in schools should promote teachers’ practical training for classroom immediate evaluation skills.Fourth,to evaluate students more effectively,teachers should strengthen communication with students to understand their lives.
