On The Transcendence Of Post-Internet Art To Internet Art

This thesis mainly analyzes the difference between "Post-Internet art" and "Internet art",and demonstrates that "Post-Internet art" is on the transcendence of " Internet art ".It is shown that the value of " Post-Internet art " in art practice will inevitably make it continue to flourish.Since we are in the midst of technological change and the torrent of the Post-Internet era,the predicament of this era is the predicament of everyone living in the present.I am very eager to research on this topic.On the one hand,I hope to provide some useful Chinese references for research.On the other hand,I also want to solve my own dilemma: how to face the predicament of living in the Internet age and the impact of new technologies on traditional creative methods as an artist.And also want to provide some theoretical support for my personal artistic creation.The research of this thesis is mainly based on combing the literature,articles and reports related to "Internet art" and " Post-Internet art",combining the artist’s cases,to research and get a demonstration."Internet art" originated from the early days of Internet development and the artists’ exploration and experimentation network media boundaries." Post-Internet art " is a new concept and new word that vocabulary proposed for "Internet art" originated from the era that the Internet has penetrated into daily life.It is a response,discussion and intervention to face of the predicament of the Post-Internet art era.The differences between the two kinds of art sorted out from three aspects: production methods,viewing methods and creative objectives.Frist,the differences in production methods can be roughly summarized as follows: compared with Internet art artists,Post-Internet artists have more educational background and professional experience in visual art;they have more intervention and active processing in images production mode and began to use algorithms to generate images.Second,the differences in viewing methods can be summarized as follows: Internet art pays more attention to dissemination due to a broader range of Internet issues.Compared with network art,it has more audience and can harvest more "unexpected audiences";Post-Internet art provides more ways to view art.In addition to electronic devices and retrospective exhibitions,online social media,artists’ personal websites,software or applications,live streaming,reports by public media,art museums,galleries,stores and even deliver art works to the audience’s home.For Internet art,their art practice is mainly to intervene in some discussions on technical and political issues in the early stage of the Internet,break the barriers of the art,communicate more freely and conveniently,and research the boundaries of the Internet as new media.The most significant difference between Internet art and Post-Internet art is the intervention in "daily life",and the purpose of their dissemination precedes the intervention in daily life.After sorting out the characteristics of Post-Internet art,I demonstrated the transcendence of Post-Internet art over Internet art from five aspects.The first is transcendence in meaning.The emergence of the term "post-network art" means the inheritance of the spirit of the exploration to the boundaries of new media,anarchist tendencies,and actively intervening in attempts to influence society through artistic practice.At the same time,the term reflects the emergence of new problems that need to be addressed with changes from the "Internet era" to the "mobile Internet era"."Post-Internet art" is actively involved in these current issues with its sensitivity to digital information.At the same time,art also pays attention to the self-consciousness and construction of its own artistic context.In order to cope with the increasingly tribalized net environment,Post-Internet art has chosen the strategy of bringing digital images back to the real space and conducting self-curation.For Internet art,the Post-Internet art production method has two transcendences: "human-machine cooperation " and the transformation of the way participating in exhibitions.The “human-machine cooperation” means that artists in Post-Internet art intervene more actively in images,rather than relying too much on the methods of image-production by new media.The change in the way of participating in exhibitions means that artists could be curators by themselves,no longer limited to the production of artworks,and liberate creative productivity.Post-Internet art has also surpassed in the way of intervention by Internet art,the biggest transcendence is the intervention to daily life.Post-Internet artists must learn to deal with more diverse and complex spaces,and learn how to reach a wider audience group,so that they must use more effective ways of intervening.In addition,the involvement of Post-Internet art in copyright topic has also caused huge dimensional space,and copyright topic has had an impact both on the net-world and reality.Therefore,Post-Internet art emphasizes not only concepts but also practices.Compared with Internet art,Post-Internet art has some new visual features:the blurring of the boundaries between different medias;aesthetic characteristics of commercial images;image copy of the artwork reach audience before the work itself;deliberately the blurring of the boundaries between screen display and physical presentation;the fluid and various forms.These characteristics reflect some results achieved by the aesthetic practice of Post-Internet art,which brings unexpected viewing and more open results to the audience.It’s more valuable that the strategy of bringing digital images back to the physical space and conducting self-curation by Post-Internet art due to the challenges of digital technology and the increasingly tribalized net environment.It not only emphasizes the uniqueness of Post-Internet art as a kind of art,but also reveals the fact that people are losing control of their vision in the current huge data vortex.However,Post-Internet art also faces some problems: it deviates from the authentication system of art;how to deal with the relationship between images,works and knowledge in the present;how to be widely seen by the public.But,for a new and immature art category,the vitality,humor,and sense of responsibility displayed by Post-Internet art are its values worthy of discussion.As the Internet continues to infiltrate and influence daily life,Post-Internet art will definitely follow this reality to involve art practice in our life,becoming an unstoppable trend.
