A Practice Report On Chinese-english Consecutive Interpreting Of CMMI Interview

This is a practice report based on Chinese-English consecutive interpreting of CMMI(Capability Maturity Model Integration)Interview.The source text comes from the consecutive interpretation recordings as the interpreter was once responsible for the CMMI consecutive interpretation of a company.CMMI,as a software capability maturity evaluation standard popularized and implemented around the world,is mainly used to guide the improvement of the software development process and evaluate the software development capability.The source text records how the foreign expert interviewed personnel from the company’s development,design,testing,and demand departments.The results of the CMMI review should be sent to CMMI international accreditation body,and foreign experts are usually involved.The content of the interview can provide some guidance for Chinese enterprises participating in CMMI ratings.In the process of Chinese-English interpretation,the interpreter found out some problems.For example,insufficient background knowledge reserve,short-memory deficiency and lack of logic in note-taking.The lack of background knowledge is reflected in two aspects: lack of knowledge on technical terms and problems for information analysis.In solving the problems that occurred in the consecutive interpretation,the interpreter used Daniel Gill’s effort model to propose solutions.In his book Basic Concepts and Models for Interpreter and Translator Training,Professor Daniel Gill puts forward his own mode of consecutive interpretation,which is divided into "comprehension(listening and note-taking)stage" and "output(target language restatement)stage." Based on these two consecutive interpreting stages,the interpreter proposes the following solutions: such as professional knowledge acquisition,improvement of analysis,practice on short-term memory and use of logic symbols in note-taking.In a nutshell,the solutions provided in the report can address the challenges to a large extent,which may shed light on other interpreters when it comes to such type of interpreting.
