| This thesis takes the “news hot words of the week” column of China Daily website as corpus to analyze the background,and translation methods of news hot words in different fields.China Daily is an important window for China’s foreign publicity and an important channel for Chinese and foreign people to understand China.With the proposal of “Internet +” strategy and the development of social networks,news hot words have become increasingly popular and become an important part of netizens’ daily life.The “news hot words of the week” section of the “Language Tips” column on its official website is of great timeliness,attraction and value,and is widely concerned by readers.Therefore,the author studies the translation methods of news hot words based on Newmark’s translation theory,hoping to make a contribution to the study of the English translation of Chinese news hot words and provide some reference for later researchers.The thesis includes five chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly introduces the research background,research significance,research methodology and thesis structure.The second chapter is a literature review,which mainly introduces studies of the translation of news hot words and Newmark’s translation theory at home and abroad.The third chapter introduces the two core parts of Newmark’s translation theory,semantic translation and communicative translation.The fourth chapter is the case study of this thesis.Under the guidance of semantic translation theory,communicative translation theory and the combination of the two theories,the author makes a specific analysis of the translation methods of news hot words.The fifth chapter summarizes the whole thesis.The core of Newmark’s translation theory are semantic translation and communicative translation.Semantic translation emphasizes the thinking process of the author and strives to maximize the reproduction of the form and content of the original text.However,communicative translation is reader-centered,which means that the effect received by the target readers should be close to that received by the source text readers.Newmark also emphasizes that semantic translation and communicative translation should be regarded as a whole.The two methods are often used interchangeably in translation,only with different emphases,and sometimes they are combined into one.The author thinks that Newmark’s translation theory is of great research value,so this thesis intends to conduct a case study based on Newmark’s translation theory.In view of the difficulties in translating news hot words,this thesis,guided by semantic and communicative translation of Newmark’s translation theory,analyzes the translation methods of news hot words: For the translation of Chinese words with Chinese characteristics such as personal names and places,transliteration is adopted.For the translation of news hot words with concise language but rich content,literal translation is adopted.Under the guidance of semantic translation theory,the accuracy of news hot words can be restored,the features of original texts can be retained,and the cultural connotation can be transmitted.For the translation of coarse language and the lack of cultural equivalents,omission and substitution are mainly adopted to make the translation more concise,natural and easy to understand,which meets the requirements of communicative translation theory.For the translation of words with distinct national color and words with vague content,paraphrase and amplification are mainly adopted,and under the guidance of communicative translation theory,the thesis attempts to enhance the aesthetic feeling of the translation and make the expression more vivid.Through the analysis and discussion of the translation methods of news hot words,the author finds that semantic and communicative translation of Newmark’s translation theory have certain guiding significance for the translation of Chinese news hot words.The translation of news hot words is of great value and significance for intercultural communication and Chinese culture going out,thus providing beneficial reference for better translation of news hot words and service for Sino-foreign cultural communication. |
