Over the last few decades, the competitiveness in tourism industry has presented a new form, shifting from competition among different travel firms to the one among tourist destinations. And the competitiveness has found its source of power from the globalization and the opportunities brought by fast technological development. In such context, many tourist destinations have plunged themselves into international markets. The translation material,on which this report is based,is taken from the English academic book-Tourist Destination Management: Instruments,Products, and Case Studies, which is a helpful resource on the applications of practices of destination management.Guided by application of Peter Newmark’s Correlative Approach to translation, this report briefly introduces the process of this translation practice, discusses the translation strategies of academic texts from three dimensions of lexical, syntax and discourse. The second and third chapters of the report make a detailed analysis of the application of translation theories, methods and strategies in translation practice. At the lexical level, translators need to reasonably convert, add or subtract the words in the original text according to the characteristics of the text, word collocation and context, especially appropriate translation of tourism industry terms. At the grammatical level, due to the differences between English and Chinese, the translator needs to adjust the grammatical structure in the process of translation, such as splitting translation, the transformation of the voice, conversion perspective. At the textual level, logical cohesion can achieve smooth coherence of the translated text and thus achieve textual closeness. The author hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference and help for translating similar academic texts. |
