A Practice Report On The Translation Of Slowing Down To The Speed Of Life Under The Guidance Of A Correlative Approach To Translation

As the modern society develops rapidly,human's pace of life accelerates accordingly.Efficient life not only improves human' s life quality but also brings us anxiety,dysphoria,depression and other psychological problems.In this situation,inspirational and self-help text is more and more popular in recent years.In this thesis,I select the first part of the book Slowing Down to the Speed of Life and finish the translation work on the basis of the theory of A Correlative Approach to Translation of Peter Newmark.My purpose is to find out the translation characteristics of this kind of text,to summarize good translation methods and to preferably apply research achievement from foreign countries to our life upon the translation of this kind of text.The thesis is an E-C translation report of Slowing Down to the Speed of Life.The first part gives an introduction to the translation task,including task background and task value.The second part describes the process of translation task,including two aspects,preparation before translation and process description.The third part introduces and elaborates the theoretical guidance of translation,that is to say the A Correlative Approach to Translation.The fourth part illustrates the specific applications of A Correlative Approach to Translation in Slowing Down to the Speed of Life with abundant examples.The fifth part summarizes the report and lists limitations and inspirations from this translation practice.The inspirational and self-help text I select includes psychological knowledge,short stories and life philosophy.When translating this text,I need to accurately convey the meaning of the source language,meanwhile,make the translation conform to the habit of Chinese expressions.A Correlative Approach to Translation of Peter Newmark is a relatively complete translation theory which closely combines semantic translation with communicative translation and alternately uses these two ways of translation so as to convey the meaning of original text better.Under the theoretical guidance,and through finding relevant information from different aspects,I have summarized translation methods of this kind of text.Besides,I have a newunderstanding of translation and find some deficiencies.I hope this translation report can play a role of starting a discussion,encourage more people to translate inspirational and self-help text and apply advanced research achievements from the abroad.
