This is a report on the C-E translation practice of Commercial Aircraft Development& Management Terminology Handbook in Chinese,English and Russian. The handbook includes the terms and notes on aircraft development management accumulated by Chen Yingchun and others from the School of Aeronautics of Shanghai Jiaotong University, which are used to support international business contracts, project plan management and aircraft technical management.Chapters A-F of the handbook are selected as the source text for this translation project report. This report used the framework of “Comprehension,Expression and Adaptation”proposed by Professor Li Changshuan to conduct case analysis.By comparing the initial translation with the final translation, this report analyzed the problems and difficulties in the process of translation and summarized the translation theories and strategies the author employed solve the problems.“Comprehension” dealt with how to understand background knowledge and language knowledge;due to the differences between English and Chinese,“expression” problems are manifested in many aspects, including technical terms, attributive positions, active sentences and passive sentences and run-on sentences;in the aspect of “adaptation”,the author corrected the wrong contents in the source text and flexibly added or deleted the words to make the translation conform to the expression rules of the target language.Through case analysis,it was found that a good C-E translation of scientific texts needs not only background knowledge and language knowledge, but also the ability to use translation tools and parallel texts. In addition,an excellent translator does not depend on the source text rigidly but translates the source text flexibly. It is hoped that this report may provide a reference for translators who engaged in scientific text translation and term translation.
