There Is No Outside,jointly published by Verso Books and n + 1 website,is a collection of global pandemic –the Covid-19 pandemic.This collection contains many writers’ records of the pandemic and tracks the disease through the circulation of global capital: from New York’s prisons and emergency rooms to Los Angeles’ s homeless camps to the Greek immigration camp.Every writer’s writing style in the collection is quite different,but the writers are all trying hard to be cautious and meticulous,and convey the most authentic information to readers.With the deepening of globalization,transnational communication is becoming more and more common,which creates conditions for the emergence of global pandemic.The Covid-19 pandemic,along the route of the transnational market,has evolved into a global epidemic and brought great trauma to people at home and abroad.There Is No Outside collects foreign writers’ understanding and feelings about the disease.Translating the book into Chinese and presenting it to Chinese readers help the Chinese people know different views and promote their understanding and reflection on the coronavirus pandemic from different perspectives.Meanwhile the process also tests the translator’s ability of translation.The process and the analysis of the translation provide basic materials for the writing of this report.The translation practice and the report are based on the three principles of Skopos theory.The first chapter of the report introduces the background of translation practice.The second chapter introduces the translation process,including the preparation before translation,the choice of translation theory and text analysis.The third chapter mainly introduces the three principles of Skopos theory.The fourth chapter are case studies guided by Skopos theory.Under the guidance of the Skopos principle,the communicative purpose can be realized,the translation can be smooth and coherent under the guidance of the principle of coherence,and the faithfulness of the translation can be improved by the principle of faithfulness.The fifth chapter is summary and reflection.In the process of translation,the translator not only gains valuable knowledge and experience,but also finds problems,such as insufficient knowledge reserve,narrow vision,and poor research capabilities.In addition,based on this translation practice,the translator summarizes the basic requirements for translators in essay translation in the hope that this translation report will provide other translators with some inspirations,suggestions and references.
