The source text of this translation report is an excerpt from Chapter Five "Future of International Peace and Security" in the book The Future of Diplomacy after Covid-19:Multilateralism and the Global Pandemic.Chapter Five focuses on international peace and security in the context of realpolitik.Since the outbreak of COVID-19 at the beginning of 2020,various international conflicts have intensified, causing changes in the world situation. The purpose of the translation of Chapter 5 is to introduce the efforts made by the United Nations to maintain international peace and security, and the irreplaceable role played by the United Nations in leading member states to carry out multilateral cooperation to jointly combat the pandemic. An accurate understanding of the characteristics of the text is crucial to the selection of the appropriate translation theories. The Future of Diplomacy after the Covid-19:Multilateralism and the Global Pandemic covers political theory,as well as excerpts from UN meetings. In view of the characteristics of this text, this translation practice employs Eugene Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory. For the political terms and long sentences in the text.the author adopts literal translation, addition translation, word order recombination and other translation methods to achieve functional equivalence. The author holds that applying Functional Equivalence Theory to the translation of political text can convey source language information to the maximum extent and help target readers understand the original text. Therefore, this theory is applicable to political text translation. The report is divided into four parts. The first part is the description of the translation task, including the source of the translated material, the introduction of the author and the work,as well as the practical significance and academic value of the translation material. The second part describes the translation process, which is divided into preparation before translation and post-translation review. The third part is the core part of this report, namely the translation case analysis.Guided by Functional Equivalence Theory, the author analyzes the selected translation examples from lexical, syntactic and textual aspects. The fourth part is the translation practice summary. The author summarizes her gains in the translation process,as well as the translation skills of political texts.Through this practice, the author gets a deep understanding of political text translation, accumulates more professional knowledge and improves her translation skills.Meanwhile, she hopes that this practice will be of some reference for relevant translators.
