| Since its accession to the World Trade Organization,China has engaged in extensive economic and trade cooperation with other countries, contributing to a faster economic growth and an improving security market.China’s security investment market, despite in its preliminary stage of development,is favored by a massive of investors. However, most of them suffer losses instead of earning profits for their lack of suitable, safe investment methods and strategies, and it is necessary for us to learn from excellent Western investment approaches. For this reason, the author chose Benjamin Graham’s Net-net Stock Strategy(excerpts)written by Evan Bleker as the source text, which tells us about Benjamin Graham’s net-net investment strategy and other Western investment knowledge. It is exclusively written for small private investors, aiming to provide practical guidance on investment for them.As the translation material is a financial text, the author was confronted with two obstacles amid translation: Firstly, frequent occurrence of long and complicated sentences;Secondly, extensive use of common words with uncommon meanings and terminologies. With the Skopos Theory, based on its three rules, the author adopted adaptation, explicitation, omission, division, inversion, and literal translation to address the first problem;and she took the approaches of extended meaning of words and made use of parallel texts in response to the second problem.Through exploration and analysis, the author has drawn following conclusions: The Skopos Theory is suitable to guide the financial English translation;Based on its three rules, the author could take flexible and appropriate translation methods and skills to ensure a readable, understandable and informative translation for target receivers. This report is split into four chapters. The first chapter introduces the translation material and describes the translation process;the second chapter presents the analysis of the Skopos Theory;the third chapter is case study and the fourth chapter is about summary and limitations of the report. |
