A Report On Translation Of Jatropha,Challenges For A New Energy Crop (Excerpts)

With the rapid increase of energy consumption in the world,the energy crisis is exerting more and more profound influence on the development of global society and economy.Seeking renewable energy to solve current and future energy problems has become a hot issue and difficulty that has attracted much attention in the world.Among the many renewable energy sources,Jatropha biodiesel energy is one of the promising ones.Therefore,the translation of such texts facilitates the exchange of information among people in the energy industry.The translation report contains about 15,000 words,which is based on the translation of an excerpt from the book Jatropha,Challenges for a New Energy Crop.The book was published in Springer International Publishing House in 2012.The authors are Nicolas Carels,Mulpuri Sujatha and Bir Bahadur.After consulting,there is no Chinese translation version published in China.The author has selected two chapters(Chapter 1 and Chapter 2)that are more able to reflect the unique language characteristics of bioenergy in the original text for translation analysis.These two chapters mainly introduce the importance of Jatropha in the world.The physiological mechanism of resistance,salt tolerance and drought resistance,as well as the influence of microbial agents on the growth and development of Jatropha curcas,and the analysis of the impact of Jatropha bioenergy on the social economy,agricultural ecology and other aspects of various countries,pointing out the future research and development direction.In these two chapters,there are a large number of professional terms,and long and difficult sentences that require the translator to adopt appropriate translation strategies for translation and post-translation based on communicative translation theory.This report is based on the translation of a book on the study of Jatropha,Challenges for a New Energy Crop.The translation report is mainly divided into four parts.The first part is the task description,which mainly introduces the background,goals and significance of the translation task.The second part analyzes in detail the theoretical basis involved in this book and the description of the translation process,the first is the preparation work of translation,including the study of bio-energy science and technology professional knowledge,collection of relevant bio-energy science and technology term list and The establishment of the memory bank,the preparation of translation tools such as SDL Trados and Menmo Q,the Google neural network translation engine,the collection of parallel texts and their translations,the Wikipedia translation dictionary search engine,and the learning of translation theory,then the original text analysis,translation expression and review Correction and other translation practice process and post-translation evaluation.The third part is case analysis.It analyzes the guiding role of communicative translation theory in translation practice from three aspects of vocabulary,syntax and text,such as the verification of bioenergy technical terms at the lexical level,the research and translation of vocabulary;At the syntactic level,using the methods of literal translation,free translation,addition,devision and combination and so on when it comes to passive sentences,subjectless sentences and long and difficult sentences;At the text level,how to use the main cohesive way to make the translation more coherent and so on.At the last of the report,it works out the optimal solutions to the problems met in the translation process,analyzes the experience and shortcomings,and gives a conclusion to the translation experience and feelings for reference.This article is an English-Chinese translation report under the guidance of Newmark’s communicative translation theory and with the assistance of relevant translation materials.The English text of this translation project covers about 15,000 words,and the original text is a scientific and technological text as well as a typical information text.Translating this text should focus on understanding the information of the original text and achieving the communicative function of the target text,and comply with the translation principles of accuracy,fidelity and readability,so that the target language readers can obtain the corresponding information and provide reference and basic information for the target readers.So that they have a basic understanding of Jatropha biodiesel new energy research.
