A Report On Translation Of Essentials Of Epidemiology In Public Health (Excerpts) From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Approach

Nowadays,epidemiological research is developing rapidly in terms of scale,scope and influence.Although China’s public health is also in a positive stage of development,there are still many deficiencies exposed under the influence of COVID-19.To promote the sustainable development of China’s medical and health undertakings,it is necessary to draw on the advanced epidemiological experience and knowledge from foreign countries.Therefore,it is of great significance to translate best-selling epidemiology textbooks from foreign countries.Furthermore,medical science is one of the most fastest-growing disciplines of natural sciences,and medical translation has also become an essential means of introducing foreign medical achievements.In this process,it is of practical significance to analyze and discuss the Chinese translation of medical English textbooks.The materials selected in this report are medical textbooks with certain professional medical knowledge,concise and rigorous language,and mainly expatiate epidemiology knowledge.The author is required to combine medical expertise with language accuracy.Therefore,through literature research,the translator collects and sorts out the literature related to Newmark’s communicative translation approach,analyzes the original text with case analysis method and selects representative translation examples.Under Newmark’s communicative translation approach,the author adopts such translation methods as diction,conversion of word class,restructuring and voice conversion to enhance the readability of the translation and realize the practice of medical translation at the lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The author attempts to guide medical translation from the perspective of communicative translation and summarizes methods of medical translation,hoping to provide more references and inspiration for the study of medical translation.
