| The source text of the report is chosen from Dark Psychology Secrets,a book written by James Hollins. It is mainly concerned with the knowledge of dark psychology and helps protect readers from emotional manipulation. The source text belongs to social science text whose language to a certain extent is professional and official,in which nominalization is frequently used. However, how to deal with the translation of nominalization is difficult because of the cultural differences between China and the West.Recently, with the development of social science research, more and more social science text translation studies have been carried out.In view of the fact that the translation shifts theory provides a powerful guidance for solving many problems encountered in the translation of social science texts, this report focuses on the translation strategies for nominalization in social science texts under the guidance of translation shifts theory and probes into the English-Chinese translation of lexical and syntactic nominalization in Dark Psychology Secrets. Therefore, this report summarizes the translation strategies for nominalization to improve translation quality and provide more references for how to translate nominalization in social science texts under the guidance of translation shifts theory. The report consists of five chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the translation project, and the second chapter describes the translation process.Chapter Three describes the theoretical framework, which introduces translation shifts theory and its applicability in translation. The fourth chapter is a case study.Combined with specific examples,it probes into such translation strategies as omission, conversion, preposing, amplification, conversion, literal translation, recasting, division and synthesis, etc.,for the translation of different types of nominalization. The fifth chapter briefly summarizes the main findings and limitations of this report,as well as the prospect of future research. |
