| This report is based on the translation practice of the second chapter of Great Smoky Mountains National Park,North Carolina and Tennessee.This handbook presents the rich natural treasures in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park,but also its cultural significance.The second chapter mainly introduces plentiful attractions,landscapes,wildlife resources,streams and lakes of the park,providing tourists with a wealth of detailed information of scenic spots and reflecting the language function of the tourism text.The focus and difficulty of this translation practice lies in how to represent the informative and appellative function of the tourism text and reflect its practicability and publicity value.The source text chiefly presents the natural tourist resources,and meanwhile it focuses on making an appeal to target readers through the sentences with the second personal pronoun and intensive descriptions of the scenery.Put forward by German scholar Katharina Reiss,Text Typology is conducive for the translators to recognize and analyze the language function and to translate for realizing the relevant language function.Thus,under the guidance of Text Typology,the translator analyzes the differences between Chinese and English tourism texts and adopts negation,conversion and division to convey the information accurately in translation,reflecting the informative function of the source text.Moreover,addition,condensation and inversion are applied to achieve the aesthetic taste of tourism text and appellative function of the second personal pronoun.This translation report consists of four chapters: translation task description,process description,case analysis and conclusion.The report demonstrates Reiss’ Text Typology has a certain guiding significance for the translation practice of tourism texts and it can enlighten the translators in the analysis of text function and the selection of translation techniques. |
