Trust is not only the foundation of cooperative behavior, but also the cornerstone of interpersonal harmony.Interpersonal trust is an individual’s psychological expectation that others may cooperate with each other and the behavior of handing over resources to others after voluntarily taking risks.Trustors often need to take on certain risks,so it is not easy to produce interpersonal trust.According to previous studies, when deciding whether to establish trust, trustors often collect information from all aspects of the trusted, which can be divided into two categories: direct information and indirect information.Gossip is an unconfirmed descriptive or evaluative information related to the third party who is not present, and it is an indirect information that has an impact on interpersonal trust. It can be divided into positive, neutral and negative according to its potency.Promise,as a kind of direct information,is a kind of non binding verbal guarantee given by the trusted person to the trustor.Through this kind of behavior, the trusted party believes that he(the trusted party)will or will not do something in the future.Among them, the level of promise is high and low,and the conditions are simple and complex. It is known that gossips and promises affect interpersonal trust, but under the three kinds of valence gossips,it is not clear how the promise of different levels and conditions affects interpersonal trust. This study aims to explore how the validity and conditions of the gossips and the level and conditions of trust have an impact on interpersonal trust,in order to further clarify the mechanism that affects interpersonal trust, and to enhance cooperative behavior and promote the construction of a harmonious society. In this study,we first discussed the influence of the validity of gossips and whether there are promise conditions on interpersonal trust. The experimental design of three(positive, neutral and negative)x three(promise conditions: Yes,no,unknown)was used.Secondly, the influence of the level of gossip validity and promise on interpersonal trust was studied. The experimental design was designed in the subjects with three(positive, neutral and negative)x three(promise level: none, simple and complex). Finally, the influence of the complexity of the hypothesis validity and promise conditions on interpersonal trust was discussed. The experimental design was designed in the subjects of three(positive, neutral and negative)x three(promise conditions: none, simple and complex). The results are as follows:(1)gossip has a significant effect on interpersonal trust, and it is not affected by the change of promise conditions of the trusted party. The highest level of interpersonal trust is always under the condition of positive gossip, followed by neutral gossip, and the lowest level is under the condition of negative gossip.(2)promise condition has a significant effect on interpersonal trust. The highest level of interpersonal trust is under promise condition, followed by no promise gossip, and the lowest level is under unknown promise condition.(3)The level of promise has a significant impact on interpersonal trust. The level of interpersonal trust is the highest under the low level of promise, followed by the middle level of promise, and the lowest under the high level of promise.(4)Compared with no promise and simple promise, the level of interpersonal trust under complex promise is higher.Gossip has a strong influence on the level of interpersonal trust, and is not affected by the change of promise content.Positive gossip is the highest, followed by neutral gossip, and negative gossip is the lowest. However, the individual’s preference for promise cues in trust decision-making is positive, realizable and complete, showing a conservative trend.
