At present,most of the English classes adopt traditional reading teaching mode,and the students’ participation is low and they are not interested in the English reading class.Therefore,the students’ English reading performance is not ideal.The teacher-led reading teaching model is no longer suitable for today’s junior high school classrooms.Therefore,it is particularly urgent to find a teaching model suitable for junior middle school English reading class.The Jigsaw method is a kind of teaching mode of cooperative learning.Many scholars abroad have used it in various fields of various disciplines,and the effect is very significant.In the reading class of Jigsaw,each student is not an independent individual.We can compare the English reading class of the Jigsaw method to a complete puzzle,and each student to a small piece of the complete puzzle.Without the participation of any student,this puzzle is incomplete.Therefore,every student is very aware that their level of effort and participation have a great influence on the final victory of the group.Therefore,this will encourage each student to actively participate in group activities and win glory for the group.This teaching mode is exactly what the new curriculum reform advocates.Nowadays,most scholars apply the Jigsaw method to universities,high schools and vocational technical schools,and few scholars apply it to the junior middle school stage.Based on this,this dissertation applies the Jigsaw method to the junior middle school English reading classroom teaching for research.This research is supported by the theory of the Jigsaw method,the theory of recent development zones,and the theory of social interdependence.In junior high school English teaching,we apply the Jigsaw method to conduct teaching experiments.Through testing,questionnaire survey and interview methods,we try to solve the following research problems:(1)What effect does the Jigsaw method have on students’ reading interest and classroom participation?(2)What effect does the Jigsaw method have on students’ English reading performance?(3)What is the effective teaching model of the Jigsaw method in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools?In this thesis,54 students from Class 5,Grade 8 of Zhoujin junior Middle School in Anyang City were used as the research object.A four-month teaching experiment of the Jigsaw method was carried out.The data collection of pre-tests and post-tests,questionnaire surveys,and interviews and the use of SPSS22.0 software performs data analysis on pre-test scores and post-test scores,and uses SPSS22.0 software to analyze the average data of each question in the classroom participation questionnaire before and after the experiment.The results found that: First,the Jigsaw method can improve students’ reading interest and classroom participation.Second,the Jigsaw method can improve the English reading performance of junior high school students.The use of the Jigsaw method in the teaching of English reading in junior high schools is Effective.To sum up,the use of the Jigsaw method in junior high school English reading teaching is effective.Thirdly,through case teaching,an effective the Jigsaw method for junior high school reading teaching mode has been found. |
