With the notable improvement of China’s international influence,the number of overseas students studying Chinese has increased significantly.Textbooks are the main tool for foreign language teaching and play an important role in second language teaching.Although significant progress has been made in the compilation of Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners in recent years,some problems still exist.Among them,the lack of Russian versions of Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners.The existing ones cannot meet the needs of learners whose mother tongue is Russian.The object of this research is the Chinese-Russian translation problems of“Fluent Chinese Reading” textbook content.“Fluent Chinese Reading” is a basic Chinese comprehensive textbook.The textbook was compiled with the support of the Confucius Institute at Santa María Catholic University in Peru,and its quality has already been proven during the teaching process.The purpose of this research is to find out the potential problems of Russian translation of “Fluent Chinese Reading” textbook and suggest reasonable translation.This paper studies the Russian translation of Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners,however not based on the existing Russian translation,but through the author’s translation process.The main translation problem of Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners is the translation of new words,which is mainly reflected in the lack of typical context.This leads to the need to choose one of several meanings of words in the translation process.However,because the vocabulary in most languages is still polysemous,the corresponding meaning selection becomes more complicated.When translating,the author conducts the translation based on the existing context,and also takes into account the following factors: frequency of vocabulary use,vocabulary grammar and practical characteristics,et cetera.In addition,translation difficulties are also reflected in terminology translation,so the author has also done research on terminology translation in the grammar notes of the textbook.When conducting research,the author adopts the literature research method,analysis method,Russian-Chinese comparative research method and practical research method,namely the translation work itself.The new words translation problems found in this study can be divided into the lack of Chinese-Russian vocabulary equivalence,translation of words bearing cultural peculiarities,vocabulary explanation,function word translation,Chinese-Russian part of speech problems,Chinese-Russian proper name translation.As the result of the textbook translation work,the author has found a total of 99 new words translation problems.Among them,the largest proportion comprises the lack of Chinese-Russian vocabulary equivalence,42 of which account for 42.4% of all new words translation problems.The difficulty of annotation terminology translation lies in the choice of translation strategy.The author uses five strategies to translate Chinese terms into Russian.The most widely used strategy is the use of so-called “clear” terms in the translation text.This strategy was used in 15 cases,accounting for 65.2% of all cases.Through the translation of the related textbook and subsequent analysis work,the author puts forward the following translation suggestions for Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners: adhere to the unity of translation;distinguish between two meanings of the same word;pay attention to the parts of speech of the original language,but do not ignore the expression habits of the target language;pay attention to the content of the textbook;add vocabulary explanations and terminology explanations etc.In addition,when translating teaching texts,it is necessary to pay attention to the expression habits of the target language instead of original text one-to-one word translation.The author hopes that the results of this research will help translating newly compiled Chinese language textbooks for foreign learners into Russian.
