Debussy(1862-1918),a famous French composer at the end of 19thcentury and the beginning of 20thcentury,was often regarded as a representative of Impressionist music for inheriting the tradition of late romantic music and national music in the 19thcentury,breaking the system centered on major and minor keys in classical music and creating the Impressionist style dominated by colorful harmony with a soft dynamics,which influenced and promoted the development of Western harmony thinking and techniques at the end of 19thcentury and the beginning of 20thcentury.Piano music plays an important role in Debussy’s composition.Compared with his other piano works,most of his preludes were short and the ideas were more concentrated and single.The Book I of Preludes was published in 1910,and the themes were mainly derived from what he saw and heard,which were various;The Book II was published in 1913,which was different from the Book I in style,and the playing skills were more difficult.Through the analysis and research of Debussy’s preludes,the author has a comprehensive understanding of the overall characteristics of his Impressionist harmony and a further understanding of the development of Western harmonic thinking and techniques at the end of 19thcentury and the beginning of 20thcentury.
