As the main river transportation channel in the Ming and Qing Dynasties,the Grand Canal flows through many towns,connecting important political,economic,and cultural sites.Its special geographic scope has created he birth of the Grand Canal culture,a characteristic regional culture in the basin.The Ming Dynasty government’s dredging,official governance and supervision strengthened the transportation function of the Grand Canal on the one hand,promoted the exchanges between the north and the south,and provided active support for the development and growth of the towns in the Grand Canal basin.In the scope of the Grand Canal basin,the development of Jiangnan river basin is the most representative.Jiangnan river basin covered the “Jiangnan Shi Fu Yi Zhou” in the Ming Dynasty,including several central economic towns in the country.The prosperity of the commodity economy and religious culture in Jiangnan river basin promoted the progress of the handicraft industry and the literary industry.It also incubated the buds of early capitalist economy and new cultural ideas,which laid the potential foundation for the later development of Jiangnan basin and even the whole country.As a carrier of culture,clothing combines the background of the times and the regional style.The artistic expression of its form,color,material,craftsmanship and decoration reflects the characteristics and influence of various social factors in the area where it is located.It is an intuitive concretization of abstract culture.which performed.Especially the patterns of decorative clothing have a more continuous development and evolution process and inheritance than clothing.As the most credible physical case,the clothing patterns unearthed in the tombs have more diverse cultural connotations.In addition to the connotation of the times,regional characteristics,and individual aesthetics,they also involve tomb culture,folk customs,etc.,and the quantity and burial information is outstanding,with more comprehensive research generality.More than 600 Ming tombs have been discovered in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal.The clustering of tombs and the integrity,diversity,and folklore of unearthed cultural relics are more prominent.More than a thousand pieces of various clothing items were unearthed from the Ming Tomb in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal.The clothing patterns are in thousands of shapes.The application is rich and the meaning is auspicious.It realizes people’s aesthetic conception and pursuit,and embodies the people’s yearning and expectation for a better life.With the development and changes of objective conditions in all aspects of society,it demonstrated the extremely high artistic achievements of the costumes and patterns in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal in the Ming Dynasty.The artistic and cultural information recorded by the tomb costume pattern itself is an indispensable argumentation material for scholars who study the style,creation concept,and aesthetic connotation of the historical era.Its importance is equal to or even more than that of historical books and ancient books.This article takes costume patterns unearthed from Ming tombs in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal as the research object.Based on clarifying the social background of Jiangnan river basin in the Grand Canal and understanding the tomb culture and customs in the area in the Ming Dynasty,this paper summarizes the actual patterns and conducts in-depth research.Firstly,we sort out the use of themes and elements of all the clothing pattern cases unearthed in the Ming Tombs in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal,extract,classify,and list the elements and images contained in all the pattern cases,and analyze the types of design themes,the objects of materials,and the characteristics of the combination forms.The main types;secondly,the artistic expression of the clothing patterns unearthed from the Ming tombs in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal is expounded,and the patterns are summarized and discussed from the perspective of the internal laws of the pattern formation and layout application;in addition,according to the types and technical characteristics of weaving and embroidery,the analysis about art and style of the costume patterns unearthed in the Ming Tomb of Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal are discussed,and then the theme selection and artistic characteristics of the clothing patterns in Jiangnan river basin in the Ming Dynasty are summarized.Finally,comprehensively consider the time and space background of the clothing patterns unearthed in the Ming tombs in Jiangnan river basin of the Grand Canal.From the perspective of the characteristics of the times and cultural connotations of the unearthed clothing patterns,analyze the aesthetic changes between the early and middle-late Ming periods,as well as the clothing patterns of the Ming Dynasty.It played a role as a link between the Yuan and Qing dynasties;from the perspective of the regional characteristics and aesthetic implications of unearthed clothing patterns,explore the commonality and individuality of the aesthetic characteristics of Jiangnan river basin,and the similarities and differences,aesthetic consensus and difference between the clothing patterns unearthed in the Ming Tombs in Jiangnan river basin and the patterns unearthed in other regions.
