This master thesis focus on the Folk Traditional Awakening Lion and the newly created dance drama The Awakening Lion,under the guidance of the policy of the "Creative Transformation" and "Innovative Development" of The Chinese Traditional Culture.What’s more,a lot of fieldwork data and related literature have been found by using the theoretical methods of Ethnomusicology.To sum up,this paper profound cultural connection between the two comparable core elements,such as performance field,performance group,performance content,music form,dance form in terms of excellent tradition and innovative development is investigated and analyzed in the vision of "diachronic" and "synchronic".1.In terms of performance field,the Folk Traditional Awakening Lion,a folk dance,has been conceived in the dual regional cultural tradition of agricultural culture and ocean culture in Guang-Fo area,and also has been highly refined by artists of the Guangzhou Song and Dance Theater abstracted and transformed into a fine stage art—dance drama The Awakening Lion.The context,space,spiritual structure and social functions of the performance field have all changed,as well as the utilitarian nature of traditional folk customs has been replaced by the artistic purpose of modern aesthetic needs as a consequence.2.In terms of performance groups,it has been changed from the village-centered "identity trust" community connected by geography,consanguinity and kinship,and the unity and mutual aid organization with the martial arts hall and lion dance organization regiment as the matrix,to the "contractual trust" interest community which connected by industry and information.Therefore,modern artist has become the core force to realize the transformation from folk cultural resources to stage art.3.In terms of performance content,the ritual,parade and narrative performances of the folk traditional awakening lion have been transformed into stories of the awakening of individuals,nations and countries under the grand historical background of the Opium War.It fully reflects the dramatic connotation of lion dance performances constructed by rituals and stories,from clans and individuals as the center to "family and national feelings" as the center of the major social function transformation.4.In terms of the music,the gongs and drums of the folk traditional awakening lion,are based on the three-beeps drum,five-beeps drum,seven-beeps drum,and they constitute the music model and variants,which have the consistency of the conventional structure.As for the music of the dance drama The Awakening Lion,it is an organic fusion of traditional Chinese and Western music such as gongs and drums,Cantonese music,Muyu song,Cantonese folk songs,and martial arts music,electronic music,and symphony,etc.It develops and transcends the gongs and drums of the folk traditional awakening lion.5.In terms of the dance,the folk traditional awakening lion integrates the essence of southern martial arts and forms a relatively stable movement system,while the dance drama The Awakening Lion improve the folk dance movements through embedding artists’ personalized creation,and farcilitate the transformation from the traditional awakening lion to modern stage art.In conclusion,excellent traditional culture is indeed the deep foundation of cultural innovation.The policy of the "Creative Transformation" and "Innovative Development" of The Chinese Traditional Culture provides a creative way to substantially transform,innovate,and proceed the Chinese Traditional Culture and modern art. |
