Research On Multi-sensory Experience Of Handmade Books

The revival of contemporary handmade books has experienced the long practice of many book creators from the end of the 19 th century to the present.Its development history ranges from the printing age to the Internet age.Whether it is an artist’s experimental work or independently published work,"books",as an ancient medium,continue to glow with new brilliance.This article first sorts out the development and changes of handmade books since the end of the 19 th century,following the occurrence and development of new forms such as artist books,independently published books,magazines,etc.,expounding the scope and boundaries of contemporary handmade books;Analysis and research have summarized the characteristics and trends of its creation;and made an in-depth discussion with the "multi-sensory experience of handmade books" as the starting point.When humans perceive and receive information,they are always accustomed to taking vision as the leading factor and neglecting the effects of other sense organs.However,touch,hearing,and smell are superior to vision in some aspects.The creation of contemporary hand-made books should fully mobilize people’s five senses,so that the viewer’s "participation" behavior is not only a kind of viewing,but also an interactive multi-faceted intervention.Finally,through case analysis and creative practice,the article summarizes a series of application methods of multi-sensory interaction in the creation of handmade books,so as to provide other creators with more creative ideas for reference.
