Online teaching is a very significant method for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language,especially during the time with the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.As a significant training course of language skills,spoken Chinese course is often taken online.Although the online spoken Chinese teaching is welcomed and applied widely,it still has some deficiencies such as the lack of classroom interaction and practice of students.With the characteristics of practicality,communication,contextuality,culture,the performed culture approach proposed by American scholar Galal Walker at the end of the 20 th century can be applied to approach the problem mentioned above.Last year,some scholars proposed a new idea of putting the performed culture approach into practice in online spoken Chinese course and now has turned it into reality.Based on the research of these scholars,this paper has conducted further research and then applied the research results into online spoken Chinese course to help improve the international students’ oral and intercultural communication ability,as well as serving as the reference to online teaching for reducing the effects of COVID-19 pandemic on Chinese spoken course.Based on the performed culture approach,this paper has designed a classroom teaching model of online spoken Chinese course.It has eight steps: teacher preparation,student preview,preview management,theoretical interpretation,performance practice,feedback and summary,review after class and course test,and among them,the performance practice is the most significant.To make sure of its feasibility,this paper makes a very detailed explanation of concrete operations and time proportion for every step and then applied it to the online intermediate spoken Chinese course at Shanghai University of Traditional Chinese Medicine.Given the analysis and assessment of its application,this paper then discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the performed culture approach in the online Chinese spoken course,which indicates that this approach can improve the desires of expression which can strengthen the classroom interaction and the abilities of intercultural communication.However,there is still room for the improvement in preview management and context setting. |
