This translation practice report is on the basis of the E-C translation of Women in Traditional China written by the renowned American journalist Helen Snow. This book developed as the diachronic writing order, presenting the development of the images of women in traditional China.Based on the theory of functional equivalence proposed by Eugene A.Nida, the author of this paper tends to analyze and conclude the related translation methods and strategies from the translation of the second part of this book, expecting to better the translation of the whole book,as well as the translation of traditional Chinese culture. The book Women in Traditional China quotes a large number of historical facts, with the combination of the thoughts and opinions of both Chinese and foreign historians and sinologists,in which involves a larger quantities of professional knowledge and terms in the fields of history and archaeology. And the study of women in traditional China is carried under the whole developing process of Chinese history. The author of this paper introduced the functional equivalence theory into the translation practice of the second part of this book, applying the specific translation methods including literal translation, amplification, omission, division, combination, rearranging the word order to analyze the representative cases from the perspectives of words, syntax, and context, together with the recognition and needs of the readers of target language. This translation practice not only discovers the possibility of applying the functional equivalence theory to different kinds of texts, but provides the related translation methods and strategies as the reference to the same text type. Moreover, the images of traditional Chinese women have been deeply interpreted in this book with a rather comprehensive understanding of traditional Chinese women, which would complete the images of women in our mind.
