A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of Human Compatible:Artificial Intelligence And The Problem Of Control(Excerpts)

In recent years,Artificial Intelligence(AI)has not only achieved remarkable results but been applied to people’s daily life and work.Thus,it is very necessary to learn the knowledge relative to AI.Introducing and translating foreign texts in the field of AI can help people understand its history and future trend.The translation material comes from the Chapter 2 of Human Compatible: Artificial Intelligence and the Problem of Control written by Stuart Russell.The chapter details the intelligence in humans and machines from the intelligence’s biological development,the concept,and its applications.This translation practice report adopts literature review and case analysis,analyzes and discusses the translation from the three language levels of vocabulary,sentence and text under the guidance of functional equivalence theory.Specifically,the applications of addition,subtraction,and part-of-speech conversion will be discussed in the lexical language level;the author will analyze the translation of parentheses following dash,object clauses led by what as well as negative sentences in the sentential language level;the cohesion and coherence of the text will be analyzed in the text language level,so as to enhance the readability of the translation through external connectives and internal logic.Through this translation practice,the author finds that the function equivalence theory has important guidance on the translation of texts in the field of AI.Under the guidance of function equivalence theory,the translator applied subtraction,addition and other translation techniques to solve problems in the translation process,so as to make the original text and the translation achieve function equivalence.Moreover,the author has not only learned a lot of professional knowledge about AI and accumulated plenty of professional vocabulary,but also improved the translation ability.
