A Study On The Culture Communication Of Wugong Hetan Gathering From The Perspective Of Ritual View

Wugong Hetan Gathering which originated from the Houji farming culture in the ancient city of Wugong,has a history of more than four thousand years.To thank for Houji that teaching themo farm,people held a ritually meaningful temple fair,namely,Wugong Hetan Gathering.As the intangible cultural heritage of xianyang city,Wugong Hetan Gatherin attracts tourists from all over the world every year.Driven by the constantly changing society and commercial interests,what changes have taken place in the content,form and purpose of the ceremony of Wugong Hetan Gathering? What impact will these changes have on Wugong Hetan Gathering in the process of cultural communication?Different from the previous research on folk culture,this thesis arts Wugong Hetan Gathering as the research object by the theory of ritual view of communication.With the field research method,literature method and so on,this thesis studies the process of cultural communication of Wugong Hetan Gathering.This thesis first analyzes the changes on content,form and purpose of ceremony,and then explores the problems caused by these changes in cultural communication,finally finds out the causes of these problems and put forward the corresponding solutions.This thesis has the following sections.In the first section,the cause of topic selection,research meaning and research questions are discussed.The basic concept of the temple fair cuture,communication ceremony and so on are redefined,according to the relevant documents.Then,the research methods,innovation points and deficiencies of this thesis are described.The second section introduces the cultural background of the Wugong Hetan Gathering The thesis uses the Wugong Hetan Gathering as a key word to explain its geographical and human environment.Secondly,it discusses the historical legends involved in the Wugong Hetan Gathering and its development.The changes are introduced in detail to pave the way for the later research on the structure of rituals and the meaning of rituals.Then,the historical and contemporary values of the development of the Wugong Hetan Gathering will be discussed.In the third section,we regard the Wugong Hetan Gathering as a communication ritual,and studies the main body,ritual venue,ritual elements,ritual rules and ritual process in the communication process.We explore the deep cultural sharing behind these ritual symbols and the emotional connection between people.In the fourth section,we study the ritual significance and social functions of the Wugong Hetan Gathering from the perspective of ritual theory,and analyzes the sharing of culture and beliefs,time and space in the Wugong Hetan Gathering as a ritual performance using the method of field research.At the same time,it decodes the symbols in this process,and analyzes the issues of community and collective identity in the process of ritual performance.In the fifth section,based on the current status of the Wugong Hetan Gathering,we first put forward the practical problems in the process of ritual communication and analyzes its dilemmas in the ritual purpose,ritual form,ritual value and ritual content,and then propose the corresponding suggestions for the communication and development of the Wugong Hetan Gathering,thereby helping it to better continue its development.By analyzing the historical documents of the Wugong Hetan Gathering and combining the results of field research,this research has drawn the following two conclusions:1)After more than four thousand years of historical changes,the Wugong Hetan Gathering gradually evolved from the exchange of crops and the ceremony to commemorate Houji to today’s large-scale material exchange conference which gathers of food,entertainment,singing and dancing,Qin opera,agricultural supplies,intangible cultural heritage,and e-commerce products,etc.In the form of ritual,such as the form of trading,it has evolved from the original barter exchange to today’s currency transaction,and even the QR code payment method in the technological age.Moreover,the place where people trade has changed from a disorderly place at the beginning to a place planned by government departments.For the original purpose of ritual,Wugong Hetan Gathering was used for commemorating Houji.Nowadays,the ritual purpose of the Wugong Hetan Gathering has gradually evolved to be based on factors such as entertainment for the public and commercial profits with the continuous development of society.2)In the above changes,we can find that Wugong Hetan Gathering exposes some problems in the process of cultural communication.The Wugong Hetan Gathering was used for commemorating Houji’s teaching people.However,people today have gradually forgotten the root of Houji’s farming culture,that is,the exchange of farming experience.Entertainment value and commercial value have become the basic purpose for people to come to hang out.Secondly,the Wugong Hetan Gathering,which is developing in constant change,is still outdated in the form and content of its rituals and cannot keep up with the trend of the times.Thirdly,technological advancement has brought convenience to people’s lifestyles,but it has impacted the development of the offline real economy.Online shopping apps allow more young people to choose to shop at home,so young people will not have a deep understanding of the connotation of traditional farming culture.Finally,traditional media does not pay enough attention to the communication of ritual content,especially the propaganda of intangible cultural heritage with historical value,which makes it more difficult to spread traditional culture.The existence of the Wugong Hetan Gathering gives the Wugong people who come to visit the gathering a place of sustenance in their hearts.However,there are still some practical difficulties in the development today.How to better promote the spread of folk culture is a problem that we need to discuss together.This thesis studies the cultural communication of the Wugong Hetan Gathering,hoping to provide theoretical and practical references for temple fairs including the Wugong Hetan Gathering in its cultural communication and development.
