| The English-Chinese translation practice report is based on the translation of chapters one to three of Wives of War by Soraya M.Lane, who is a contemporary female literary writer in New Zealand. In the report, the author describes the translating process, analyzes the translation problems and difficulties, and finally puts forward a few strategies to solve them.Fiction translation does not mean a simple transference of words.Translators should also focus on the spirit and style of the source text. Therefore, the author adopts different strategies and methods to deal with the specific problems encountered, hence to accurately convey the message and represent the writing style of the original work in the target text. The author uses literal translation and annotation to translate military-related nouns. For those words and expressions that easily cause ambiguities,by making contextual analysis and register correspondence, the author accurately selects meaning.Representation and omission are used to translate the reference cohesion in English according to the function of the reference in the source text and the expression of Chinese habit.Through this translation practice, the author has enhanced her translation ability and become more proficient in using translation theories and strategies to solve translation problems. The author hopes that this translation practice report can provide some reference for translation learners and call for more attention to translation of fictions in relation to women and wars. |
