With the development of society and economy,the educational requirements and goals vary from time to time,changing from teaching of knowledge to cultivation of abilities and competences.Meanwhile,the English Curriculum is shifted from cultivating comprehensive language application ability to cultivating English core competences,which include language competence,cultural quality,thinking quality and learning ability,all of which should be applied to class teaching.As we all know,vocabulary learning is the basis of English learning and vocabulary teaching is critical in English teaching.However,the ordinary vocabulary lessons in China are commonly dull.Worse still,teachers are usually stuck in an awkward “solo” circumstance.To solve this problem,the research based on student-centered vocabulary teaching to cultivate students’ English core competences is conducted.This research tries to figure out the current research situation in this field and its potential disadvantages and the strategies in improving.The three questions to investigate are as follows.Through the student-centered vocabulary teaching,firstly,in which aspects can high English level students’ English improve their core competences? Is it remarkable? Secondly,in which aspects can relatively low English level students’ English improve their core competences? Is it remarkable? Thirdly,do any similarities or differences exist between different English level students? In which ways?As for the structure of this thesis,at the beginning,it clearly states the definition and connotation of student-centered vocabulary teaching and the development background and current research situation are also mentioned.Then,how to combine vocabulary teaching with English core competences is claimed.What’s more,a specific teaching plan is presented.Besides,according to the connotation of English core competences,a questionnaire is applied to the teaching experiment.At last,the research results are as follows.Through the student-centered vocabulary teaching,firstly,high English level students’ and relatively low English level students’ English have been improved remarkably in all aspects of English core competences.Secondly,there are some similarities and differences between the two different level group students which will be explained in detail in the thesis.
