The translation report is based on the translation of the novella “Imagine a Singer” by Shanxi writer Jiang Yun.Jiang Yun is good at integrating traditional Chinese values in her works,while keeping the pursuit of freedom of modernism.In her literary creation,Jiang Yun always pursues the combination of the traditional Chinese moral spirit and the modernist esteem for ideals,which comes from her full understanding of the regional culture of Shanxi,Henan and Shaanxi,and fusion of the modern Western fiction techniques.Jiang Yun’s novels are mostly set in a certain region of Shanxi,Henan,and Shaanxi,and the contents of her novel cover local folk customs and cultural characteristics,which involves rich culture and has great research value.The novella “Imagine a Singer” selected by the author mainly takes the folk culture of “Santou Yangge” in Lvliang area as the background,and tells about the Santou Xu Fan’s wandering life.Xu Fan was born to love life and didn’t want to be trapped in the cage of secular life,so he embarked on the road of looking for freedom.Although he went through ups and downs,he remained optimistic until his death.In the translation,the author noticed that the original text contains many culture-loaded words with Shanxi characteristics.Therefore,the author focuses on the English translation methods of culture-loaded words.In this translation report,the author specifically discusses the typical cases in the English translation of Chinese culture-loaded words,and puts forward the corresponding translation methods.This report consists of five chapters and appendix.In Chapter 1,the author focuses on the reasons and significance of studying culture-loaded words.In Chapter 2,the author explains his preparation,translation process and the shaping of the paper idea.In Chapter 3,the author expounds Cultural Translation Theory,introduces the definition and classification of culture-loaded words,and summarizes three types of culture-loaded words in“Imagine a Singer”.In Chapter 4,the author proposes the English translation methods of culture-loaded words in conjunction with the original text,and analyzes the translation of culture-loaded words from three perspectives,namely material culture-loaded words,social culture-loaded words and religious culture-loaded words.In Chapter 5,the author mainly summarizes the translation practice and reflects on the shortcomings in translation.The appendix is the original text and translation of translation practice. |
