This E-C translation report is based upon the translation of the first two chapters of a teenager book Why Your Parents Are Driving You up the Wall and What to Do about It,written by Dean Burnett,who is a neuroscientist.This is a psychology book and 11873 words are chosen to be translated.Aimed at teenagers,this book mainly introduces the arguments between teenagers and their parents,providing insights on why this happens and suggestions to mitigate the conflicts.The translation report begins with a brief introduction to the background and significance of the translation project and then the report focuses on the difficulties and problems encountered during the translation and the corresponding methods adopted.Selection of word meaning,part of speech conversion and literal translation with annotations were used in order to solve polysemy,part of speech and culture-loaded word problems at the lexical level.What’s more,to deal with the difficulties and problems at the syntactic level regarding slang,elliptical sentences and passive sentences the translator used the methods of context-oriented translation,supplement and Shift of voice.Additionally,to tackle the problems of coherence and cohesion at the discourse level,amplification,omission and reduction were utilized.Through the translation of Why Your Parents Are Driving You up the Wall and What to Do about It,which enriches translator’s knowledges related to teenagers,the translator also realizes the importance of applying proper translation methods to produce a faithful,accurate and readable translation.
