| Construction grammar theory deeply analyzes the essence of language from a new perspective,it shows strong explanatory power for language structures that have not ever been explained with linguistic theories.Construction grammar provides a new height for language research,breaking the boundary between vocabulary and syntax,and thus enables us to have a deeper understanding of language structure.Construction grammar distinguishes constructional meaning from lexical meaning and the interactive relationship between constructional meaning and lexical meaning,which is useful for explaining special language phenomena.In the modern Chinese grammar system,adverbs should mainly be used to modify adjectives,and “Hen(很)+N” structure is considered as a collocation that do not conform to traditional grammar.However,in the 1960s,a large number of “degree adverb+noun” structures appeared,which attracted many linguists’ wide attention.Based on that,this thesis aims to launch a discussion on the construction of “Hen(很)+N”.Based on Goldberg’s construction grammar theory,Beijing Language and Culture University Modern Chinese Corpus(BCC),by retrieving “Hen(很)+N” structure in BCC,the five types,a total of 311 corpora that “Hen(很)+N” structure included are selected,covering types of literature,newspaper,multiple fields,micro-blog,science and technology,including 80 discourses for literature,69 discourses for newspaper,47 discourses for multiple fields,62 discourses for micro-blog,53 discourses for science and technology.This thesis has taken the combination of descriptive approach and explanation,the combination of form and meaning and the combination of qualitative and quantitative research methods to reveal the constructional meaning of “Hen(很)+N” construction,and the,then the research findings are as follows: firstly,the“Hen(很)+N” construction has an independent constructional meaning,and its constructional meaning is“strengthening the attribute meaning of the entity designated by the noun”,secondly,from a syntactic point of view,the noun in the “Hen(很)+N” construction is used as adjective,and its grammatical roles different syntactic,semantic and pragmatic features of “Hen(很)+N” construction are similar to those of adjective.It can be used as attribute,adverbial modifier,complement,and predicative in the sentence playing significant syntactic roles in limiting,describing,stating and explaining;from a semantic point of view,the details of the noun summarized in the “Hen(很)+N” construction are revealed.Noun in “Hen(很)+N” construction expresses its descriptive meaning.And the noun in the “Hen(很)+N” construction has differences in the frequency of use;from a pragmatic point of view,the language of “Hen(很)+N” construction is concise and rich in amount of information to be expressed,and the language of “Hen(很)+N” construction can strengthen the semantic characteristics of noun,and can make the language expressions novel and humorous,and has the humorous effect in expressing the personality of character and the attributes of things.To a certain extent,this thesis explains special linguistic phenomena by using construction grammar theory and verifies the practicability of construction grammar theory in the interpretation of “Hen(很)+N”construction.Thus there is a further understanding on “Hen(很)+N” construction.That is,taking the“degree adverb + noun” structure as a whole to study the inheritance relationship between it and the other existing constructions.However,due to certain limitations involved in this thesis,further studies should supplement and revise this thesis duly by expanding the scope of the corpus so as to reveal the universal law of the “Hen(很)+N” construction from much more perspectives. |
