A Study On Chinese "NP+Vqilai+AP" Construction

"NP+Vqilai+AP" is a very special and complicated construction in Chinese and it has become one of the hottest topics in linguistic studies. In recent years, influenced by the researches on middle structures abroad, the scholars begin to find if a similar construction in Chinese exists. Among the scholars, some believe that "NP+Vqilai+AP" construction accord with the fundamental type of the Chinese middle structures. Others think that "NP+Vqilai’+AP" construction is just a topic sentence. Most of the studies are made from the perspective of traditional grammar. In the field of Construction Grammar, the analysis on the construction is insufficiency at home and abroad, especially in the aspect of constructional meaning and lexical meaning.This thesis tries to make a discussion on "NP+Vqilai+AP" construction based on the theory of Goldberg’s Construction Grammar and the combined method of top-down and bottom-up. The thesis mainly aims at figuring out the constructional meaning of the construction "NP+Vqilai+AP" and making a research on the interaction between the construction "NP+Vqilai+AP" and its verbs from two perspectives-role interaction and semantics interaction. The last purpose is to make a brief analysis on the relation between the construction "NP+Vqilai+AP" and other relative constructions like "NP+AP" and "Vqilai+NP+AP"?The present study shows that the constructional meaning of "NP+Vqilai+AP" construction can be described as follows:if the NP has many attributes, under the condition of the implementation of the verb, one of its attributes - (AP) can be highlighted or expresses the evaluation of the verb. And according to the theory of Construction Grammar, a construction not only has the constructional meaning, but also can exert influence on its verb, which will compel the verb to change the number of the participant roles. From the perspective of roles interaction, when "Vqilai is inserted into the construction "NP+Vqilai+AP", the participant role of the verb is cut. That is to say, the agent of the verb in this construction must be cut. From the angel of semantics interaction, the construction semantics does not match the verb semantics completely. Influenced by the construction, the characteristics of "Vqilai" are weak. Then the construction expresses a state or a kind of attribute instead of an action. We also figure out the "NP+AP" construction is just the description of the fixed attribute of the top noun. And in the "Vqilai+NP+AP" construction, "Vqilai: provides a background for the statement, the description and the evaluation instead of the method of the salience of AP’s attribute.
