Research On The Application Of Public Art In Old City Regeneration

With the rapid development of science and technology,the metabolism of the city is inevitable.It is necessary to transform the old city with backward development level to meet the needs of the new times.With the increasing improvement of people’s material living standard,people have higher and higher requirements on spiritual and cultural living standard.Public art,as a young art category and discipline,is one of the key areas of urban development.Public art plays an important and positive role in urban cultural construction,building city image,and developing related industries to improve economic benefits.Therefore,public art can be applied in old city regeneration,and various material,cultural and economic needs in old city regeneration can be solved by using public art.This paper can be summarized into four parts.The first part includes the introduction of the first chapter,which introduces the background of the subject,the general situation of related research and innovation points and part of current development status,as well as the related concepts of the old city regeneration and public art in the second chapter,and analyzes the reasons and necessity of public art’s involvement in the old city regeneration.The old city area is gradually accumulated and formed in the long history,which contains rich urban context,local conditions and customs,as well as people’s emotional sustenance for the city and life.However,due to the various backwardness of its infrastructure and other aspects,its transformation has become inevitable.The social service function of public art well meets the needs of all aspects in the old city regeneration,so it is necessary for the public art to intervene in the old city regeneration.The second part includes the third and fourth chapters.This part divides the public art into two categories according to whether the public art in the old city reconstruction is the original things in the old city,defined as "Intervention" public art and public art more unobtrusive,under the two major categories,according to public art form,function and bring social benefits respectively according to the analysis and research,and the corresponding conclusions."Non-intrusive" public art plays an important and positive role in inheriting the historical context of the old city and carrying people’s spiritual sustenance."Interventional" public art plays an important and positive role in spatial function,cultural innovation and public value guidance.The fifth and sixth chapters are the third part.The fifth chapter firstly analyzes the ways of public art serving the old city regeneration,and studies how to maximize the function of public art serving the old city regeneration from the two aspects of policy and public participation,and assist the transformation of the old city to achieve sustainable development after the regeneration.Chapter six records and analyzes the author’s on-the-spot investigation of the old city in the Liangdao Street area of Wuchang District,and proposes innovative design ideas for the regeneration of the investigation area according to the development factors affecting the public art.The seventh chapter is the last part of the paper,which analyzes and summarizes the full text.The future application of public art in the old city regeneration based on the research results is also predicted in this part.
