A Study Of Baudelaire’s Symbolism Poetics

Baudelaire holds an important position in the history of French literature and the history of world literature because of the vanguard character of his symbolist poetry.This thesis focuses on the study of Baudelaire’s symbolic poetics,trying to combine the poet’s poetic creation with the practice of literary criticism,the unification of Baudelaire as a poet and Baudelaire as a critic provides a new perspective for the overall understanding and evaluation of his academic value.Based on this,this paper makes an in-depth study from four aspects: The historical context and theoretical origin of the times,the theoretical noumenon of poetics,the critical view of poetics,the critical practice of poetics and the influence of poetics,this reveals the whole history of Baudelaire’s literary career and its unique value in the history of literature.This paper is divided into five parts and four chapters.The prolegomenon mainly includes the review of the current research situation at home and abroad,the significance of the topic selection,the research ideas and the innovation and deficiency of the thesis.The first chapter begins with an introduction to Baudelaire’s life and writings,including a brief account of his life and literary history,his major works,and an analysis of the context of his times,Romanticism and aestheticism,as well as the influence of Baudelaire’s poetics on the formation of the western traditional poetics and Poe’s theoretical origin.Finally,this paper defines symbolist poetics from two aspects: The origin and development of "symbol" and the discrimination and analysis of the concept of symbolism.The second chapter is devoted to the main points of Baudelaire’s poetics,it includes his famous poetic theory of harmony,the artistic theory of imagination and inspiration,the relationship between art and morality,the view of artistic modernity and Romanticism.This part is the core of Baudelaire’s poetics.The third part studies Baudelaire’s criticism.First of all,the basic problems in the process of art criticism,namely,the critic,the critical position,the principles and standards of criticism,etc.,on this basis,it further discusses the practice of its representative literary criticism and art criticism.This section is devoted to the whole picture of Baudelaire as a critic,and is the focus of the study.The fourth part combines Baudelaire’s poetics with the Chinese and western symbolic poetics,and mainly discusses its concrete influence on French symbolic poetry and Chinese modern symbolic literature,the aim is to find out his concrete influence on Chinese and Western literature,especially on the creation and practice of symbolism poetry.The epilogue expounds the contribution,historical position and contemporary value of Baudelaire’s symbolist poetics.
