Both Li He and Baudelaire use symbolic aesthetics while creating poetry to express their gloomy inner world and unique self consciousness.Based on the common characteristics of Li He and Baudelaire’s literary creation thinking and symbolic aesthetics, this article analyzes and discusses the deep symbolic significance and multiple reasons for the formation of the symbolic system used by the two poets,by revealing the differences between their poetic styles and emotional expressions. Both poets encountered difficulties in reality, and both witnessed the practical problems in the society in which they lived. The resulting worldliness prompted them to focus on images such as death and ghosts, which were contrary to people’s worldly positions in life, further demonstrating the common thinking: tiredness of life and expectation of death. Both poets deny the reality of suffering and the false gods, excavate and identify with the emotional value hidden behind the images of death and ghosts, and express their independent life consciousness through the construction of a symbolic system. The difference is that Li He has a self comforting attitude towards death, while Baudelaire’s belief in death is a life pursuit of self salvation. Therefore,Li He constantly ponders the significance of life and death in his poetry, and his inner heart repeatedly struggles with the contradictions of being afraid of death while facing death, and being tired of life while caring for life. The self-consciousness he displays is full of anxiety about life, which is a kind of spiritual internal friction of self torture;Baudelaire’s suffering stems from the futile pursuit of the supreme spiritual goodness and beauty that are elusive in reality, which often leads him to fall into a spiritual realm of nihility, making his self-image even more extreme and extreme, and even displaying a more negative attitude of self disgust and self abandonment.
