Chiang Yee,an outstanding Chinese writer and artist,has made a significant contribution to the East-West cultural exchange.His literary works are still reprinted to this day.Chiang Yee’s "The Silent Traveller" series of travel books written in English has many overseas readers.He explored a distinctive style of travel-writing to spread Chinese culture.He described the western world he saw from the perspective of an oriental artist.He compares different cultures to seek common humanity beyond national boundaries.Chiang Yee provided a window for the West to understand China through his own cross-cultural communication practice.Based on close reading and analysis of the text,we can see that Chiang Yee used a unique writing strategy in the cross-cultural context.In terms of language,he writes in English.When it comes to the translation of Chinese literature,history and art,he chooses a translation strategy combining domestication and foreignization.Within the scope of readers’ understanding and aesthetic ability,he retains heterogeneous content to show the characteristics and charm of our culture.In terms of form,he integrates painting,calligraphy,seal in his creation to enrich the cultural communication mode.In terms of content,he mainly describes the natural scenery and Chinese traditional culture.Chiang Yee’s original intention was inspired by his experience in the West.The experience of cross-cultural communication stimulated his national consciousness awakening and cultural identity transformation.Chiang Yee has an open and inclusive creative consciousness.The exploration of Chiang Yee’s writing strategies can bring corresponding enlightenment for today’s overseas promotion of Chinese culture and the publication of Chinese books.
