From the early and prosperpus Tang periods to the middle and late Tang periods, the use of Lingnan image in Tang poetry shows a rising trend. This is partly related to the development of the Lingnan region and external exchanges, and partly related to the accumulation of the local culture of Lingnan. This paper focuses on the inclusion of Lingnan image in Tang poetry, traces the causes behind it,and explores the significance of Lingnan image in poetry. The paper is divided into four main parts. The first part is an explanation of the use of Lingnan image in Tang poetry. The first section explores the characteristics of poets who used Lingnan image in their poems, dividing them into three categories: poets of Lingnan origin, poets who lived in Lingnan, and poets who had never been to Lingnan, and analyzing the differences between the Lingnan image used by these three categories of poets. The second is to analyze some representative Lingnan image in poetry, and to present the number of Lingnan image in poetry in the early and prosperpus Tang and middle and late Tang dynasties in the form of charts and graphs for a general overview analysis. The second part is a specific extension of the first part. This section uses quantitative changes, emotional color, and cognitive differences as criteria to select a number of imagery with characteristics for specific analysis. The quantitative changes are mainly reflected in the developing image, including the newborn image from nothing and the growing image from less to more. The emotional color is divided into two categories: pride and fear, mainly reflected in rich image and the dark image. The cognitive difference is that people in the north and the south have different perceptions of certain things,so they have different emotional differences when using certain image. The third part focuses on the investigation of the causes of Lingnan image into poetry, mainly from the development of Lingnan, the accumulation of Lingnan culture and the psychology of poets. It was the continuous development of Lingnan and its frequent exchanges with the outside world that enabled the literati of the Central Plains to have more access to Lingnan and to promote the process of introducing the developing image into poetry. The accumulation of Lingnan culture made the local literati feel proud,so the rich image of singing about Lingnan appeared. The literati who were relegated to Lingnan were depressed,so they often chose grisly image to express, which is one of the major reasons why gloomy imagery was used in the poems. The fourth part focuses on the significance of the extensive use of Lingnan image. The inclusion of Lingnan image in poetry is not only an inheritance and development of pre-Tang southern literature, but also an indication of the deeper acceptance of Lingnan by Tang literati and the spread of Lingnan culture. In addition, the inclusion of Lingnan image in poetry expanded the range of image chosen for poetry after the Tang Dynasty. All in all,as the Lingnan region developed during the Tang Dynasty, poets became more familiar with the land, which is why Lingnan image was constantly used in poetry, which not only spread the local culture of Lingnan, but also expanded the range of image chosen for later poetry and contributed to the development of poetry itself. |
