Run-on Sentences In Simulated Chinese-English Simultaneous Interpreting

The documentary "Flavorful Origins: Chaoshan Cuisine" is made by Tencent,which records the process of Chaoshan cuisine from raw materials to finished products.The documentary aims at promoting Chinese traditional culture,enhancing national pride,and expanding the international influence of Chinese culture.The selection of this documentary as data for simultaneous interpreting practice is conducive to spread Chinese traditional culture,attract Chinese traditional culture lovers from all over the world,and show the world China’s strong soft power.In this interpretation practice,we are faced with the problem of translating run-on sentences.The main problems to be solved are divided into three categories.The first category is the expression of cultural characteristics problem on run-on sentences.The second category is the output of expression and ambiguous reference problem on run-on sentences.The second category is the problem of turn-taking and the exceeding speaking rate on run-on sentences.The corresponding specific problems are the overfull expressions of Chinese food culture on run-on sentences,the excess colloquial expression on run-on sentences,and the difficulties in identifying the speaker’s turn in run-on sentences,etc.During the interpreting stage and the post-translation stage,the interpreter lists the original text and the translated text for comparison.The corresponding solutions are put forward.The specific scheme is as follows: The method of data reference and comparison is to improve the quality of the output by referring to the published and widely accepted translation materials related to Chinese characteristic expression.The free translation method is adopted to express the meaning of the original corpus with different forms of the target language,to retain the content and abandon the form.The accuracy and conciseness of target language output are improved by using the reduction and generalization method.By using the prediction method,we can predict the ambiguous information,fill in the missing components and reduce the uncertainty and psychological pressure in the process of interpretation.The complementary method is to improve the accuracy of the translation by supplementing information in translation.By adopting the omitting translation methods,the text is reprocessed by selecting information and deleting redundant information.The purpose of this interpretation practice is to simulate the problems found in the process of simultaneous interpretation and put forward corresponding solutions to ensure the smooth progress of interpretation.This practice can not only contribute to the promotion of traditional culture but also provide some ideas and references for future interpreters.
