Humorous language is the art of reflecting high EQ and philosophy,which makes the plain dialogue full of fun.However,the study of foreign languages in China pays more attention to examinations,neglecting daily communication and some necessary art of expression in life.When a second language learner communicates with a native speaker,the common phenomenon is that the native speaker tells a funny story with great interests,and the second language learner nods his head without knowing how to answer.Therefore,this paper wants to explore the causes of this phenomenon,and try to find a solution,hoping that our second language learners can use more diversified language expression methods in the future second language communication.This paper consists of four parts.Based on the theoretical knowledge of humor linguistics in cross-cultural communication,it puts forward three questions about whether there are obstacles for different language learners to understand verbal humor in Western sitcoms.It selects the silent passages from classic Western sitcoms and makes a questionnaire through editing.The Chinese version of the questionnaire was sent to Chinese college students,and the English version was sent to overseas native English speakers and second language speakers in the form of Web links.The data were collected and sorted,and the results were analyzed.It is found that Chinese college students’ understanding of humor in the second language is1-2 levels lower than that of English learners and native speakers in other countries.Finally,the paper discusses the causes of this obstacle from the aspects of the differences in logic,expression habits between Chinese and English,mother tongue transfer and other subjective and objective aspects,and the explores the solution combined with the latest theoretical knowledge Connectivism in the digital age.
