| With the increasing exchanges between China and the rest of the world, more foreigners with different cultural backgrounds come to China to visit scenic spots and learn about Chinese culture.Commissioned by the Mianyang Academy of Agricultural Sciences, the author accompanied two Israeli agricultural experts to have a tour of Mianyang Museum.During the visit, the author served as an interpreter to do consecutive interpreting for the guide and two tourists. In the process of interpreting, the author actively participated in the conversation and adopted appropriate strategies by demonstrating her visibility consciousness of subjectivity so that the interpreting task was successfully completed. This report is based on the author’s personal interpreting practice.Under the theoretical framework of Professor Ren Wen’s liaison interpreter’s subjective consciousness, from the perspectives of the interpreter as an information gate-keeper,a co-interlocuter,and a coordinator,it discusses the interpreter’s visibility consciousness the interpreter demonstrated during the guide interpretation process of the Mianyang Museum through the adoption of different strategies.Through this report, the author concluded that during the interpreting, the interpreter needs to realize his or her role as an active participant and timely be visible in conversation activities so that he or she can adopt appropriate strategies to flexibly respond to various communication difficulties and obstacles and promote the successful communication between the two parties. She also hopes that the research can provide some inspiration and references for the guide interpreting practices of museums. |
