A Report On Interpreting For A Wire Drawing Factory In Jinan

Mechanical translation and interpretation are regarded as a type of translation in which translators and interpreters can impose their subjective consciousness in a relatively restricted space due to the traits of dense terminology,less changing content,and fixed sentence patterns.In fact,mechanical liaison interpreters must exercise their subjective consciousness in mechanical liaison interpreting due to the diversity of machinery industrial norms and policies as well as cultural variances across other nations.Even though a large number of studies on the Interpreter’s Subjectivity Consciousness have been conducted since the end of 21st century,there have been few into the combination of liaison interpretation and other professional domains,like mechanical interpretation.Through this liaison interpreting work,the author learns that mechanical liaison interpreting still allows interpreters to exercise the Interpreter’s Subjectivity Consciousness.In August 2021,the author,as a liaison interpreter,accepted a task to accompany foreign clients to a drawing factory’s visit in Jinan and worked for the factory in conducting business negotiations..Based on the task,the author created this report that described the whole process of interpreting,including the pre-task preparation,obstacles and issues encountered during the process,and analysis of the task.The author discovered that in order to do the mission,she had to exert subjective consciousness through which she could promote the communicative process,advance the two parties’ connection,and successfully assist the factory in completing the visit tour.Under the guidance of the Interpreter’s Subjectivity Consciousness,the task was successfully accomplished by the’ author,who fully utilized visibility consciousness,empowerment consciousness,and non-neutrality stance.Based on visibility consciousness,interpreters should act as cultural mediators,co-interlocutors,and coordinators to coordinate the existing or possible communicative conflicts in interpreting by choosing appropriate interpreting strategies;based on empowerment consciousness,interpreters should make use of their resources to empower the weak party in communication,so that both parties can achieve a relative balance of power in the whole communication process;and based on non-neutrality stance,interpreters fostered communication relationship between the two sides and ensured their equal benefits.With the analysis and summary of the task,the author intends to get a clearer knowledge of the multiple roles that interpreters perform in mechanical liaison interpreting.Through the analysis and summary of this practical task,the author can gain a deeper understanding of the various roles that interpreters play in interpreting activities,correctly use the interpreter’s subjectivity consciousness to select the appropriate interpreting strategies accurately and flexibly.The author can also provide a reference for the future professional development of liaison interpreting and offer fresh ideas for the work and training of interpreters.
