Study Of The Lord God’s Nature On Poseidon

Poseidon is a god of the Olympian religion in ancient Greece.In Homer’s epics,Zeus,the king of the gods,and Hades,the god of the underworld,and Poseidon,divided the world into three equal parts.After that,Poseidon acquired the sea as his territory.Therefore,he and the latter two are called the three lord gods of the religion(here the lord gods are different from the twelve main gods).Previous studies on Poseidon are often generalized and fragmented,and most of them focus on his deity figure and worship performance.However,in fact,Poseidon has a unique nature when he is the lord god.This article mainly uses the method of close reading,through the analysis of the ancient Greek in many classical literature about the gods of the related description,combined with the corresponding archaeological materials and research achievements of modern famous scholars,specifically from the deity and figure of the lord god,religious cult status and function of the Lord god shows three aspects,comprehensive study upon the lord god Poseidon exist three gods are some common characteristics and unique nature.The first chapter mainly analyzes the role played by Poseidon’ deity on the identity of the lord god and the way of presenting the figure of Poseidon in the text in ancient Greek literature.Poseidon’s deities,including the god of the sea,the god of the earth,the god of earth-shaking,the god of Earth-holding and the god of the horse.However,the god of the sea naturally plays a leading role in showing the identity of Poseidon.The others play a supporting role.Poseidon is a god with the sea god as the main deity and the others as supporting deity,which is the main way of cognition and presentation of his religious figure in ancient Greek literature.In addition,because this article selected representative literature in different periods in ancient Greece and different types(Homer,Hesiod’s two long poems "work and time" and "theogony",the poet pindar’s ode,four dramatists plays,Greek mythology),each text hard to avoid in the process of shaping Poseidon god figure affected by the author’s subjective treatment,some specific text rendering details is different but the overall effect remains the same.The second chapter will focus on the summary of the lord god Poseidon’s religious worship status quo.The ancient Greek religion is a practical and realistic religion,so the ancient Greeks specially built a large number of sancturies and temples,set up various religious festivals and activities to worship their gods.According to reliable archaeological data,people’s worship of the lord god Poseidon can be traced back to the late Mycenaean.In the Archaic and Classical period,the number of temples of the lord god Poseidon increased greatly,among which the most famous are the Isthmus of Corinth and the Cape of Suniang two characteristic sancturies.Religious festivals and activities are the famous Poseideon and Poseidon Festival,in order to commemorate Poseidon founded the nature of the Isthmus Games.In addition,division of religious deities was clear and the functions of the deities were related to each other.These characteristics together lead to Poseidon’s strong natural god with ocean color and relatively fix and simple figure of the lord god,which was also the inevitable religious disadvantage of this god in worship.The third chapter discusses the function of the lord god of Poseidon.Character is one aspect of Poseidon’s function.He attaches great importance to honor,is proud,not conceited,and has a pretentious sense of justice.These three points are also reflected in the other two lord gods,especially Zeus.In addition,the lord god Poseidon has a strong power and a very high religious status,even in the face of the god king Zeus can also have the qualifications and ability to compete with him,it can be said that "under one god,above all gods".However,in the process of comparing with Athena and Apollo,Poseidon,the lord god,even though he is superior to them in power and status,still loses in the competition of realistic worship,because there are strong natural god factors in him and the highly civilized Greek society does not integrate.At the same time,the Poseidon on the one hand,did not like Zeus by sky lead to many social connotation,closely related to the ancient greeks did not,on the other hand,as the lord god caused by underground world can be as death concepts related to the ancient greeks spirit culture connotation,its function of god with the natural and primitive properties of Marine derived from geographic territory.This paper attempts to explore the nature of Poseidon when he is the lord god through the discussion of his deity,figure,worship and the function of god.In this way,we can not only deepen the overall understanding of the ancient Greek religion where Poseidon lived,but also further discover the charm of the Greek maritime culture behind the figure of Poseidon.
