Lexical chunks refer to those fixed or semi-fixed language structure patterns in language learning,and are the units for memorizing,storing,inputting,and outputting languages.It meets the requirements of English Curriculum Standards for Compulsory Education(2011)for junior high school students to master vocabulary,and is also an important factor affecting the quality of students’ writing.However,most learners are affected by factors such as lack of vocabulary,negative transfer of mother tongue,insufficient attention and so on,so they cannot write in authentic English,which results in insufficient expression and standardization.Based on previous studies on lexical chunks,this research applies lexical chunks to junior high school English writing teaching to help and guide students in identifying,practicing,mastering and accumulating lexical chunks in the learning process,aiming to reduce students’ expression mistakes to a certain extent,acquire more authentic and accurate expressions,and improve their English writing skills.This study mainly answers the following questions: 1)What is the current situation of using lexical chunks in junior high schools students’ English writing? 2)Is there any correlation between the students’ ability of using lexical chunks in English writing and their English writing proficiency? Are there differences between students at different levels? 3)In what aspects the application of lexical chunks in English writing teaching in junior high schools improve students’ English writing ability?The research field is in X Middle School in Jiangsu Province.A total of 92 students in two classes in the first grade of junior high school are selected as the research participants,and the two classes are separated as the experimental group and the control group respectively.The research adopts teaching experiment method for research,and adopts a questionnaire and two tests including pre-test and post-test for data collection.The results of the research show that: 1)the current junior high school students have insufficient knowledge of lexical chunks and lack of input and output of lexical chunks;2)the ability of utilizing lexical chunks in English writing is significantly positively correlated with their writing performance.The ability of utilizing various number and types of lexical chunks of students in high score group is better than that of the students in low score group,but lexical chunk teaching has a great influence on the improvement of low score students;3)after the experiment,there is a significant difference in the writing ability between students in the experimental group and in the control group.The expression accuracy and structural fluency of students’ writing have been significantly improved,but there is no significant difference in content integrity.In light of the research results,this study believes that lexical chunks should be applied to English writing teaching in junior high schools,and input and output exercises of lexical chunks should be increased to improve students’ writing level and writing ability.
