| Currently, the oral expression ability of high school students in our country is not satisfactory. Many students cannot express their opinions accurately in English, nor can they communicate with others smoothly in English, and their oral skills fail to meet the requirements of the curriculum standards. Moreover,in the high school stage, oral English teaching is not valued by teachers and students, because the college entrance examination does not examine oral ability. In 2015,Professor Wen Qiufang proposed a foreign language teaching theory with Chinese characteristics--“ Production-Oriented Approach”(POA).POA theory emphasizes “learning-centered” instead of emphasizing teachers or students. However, most of the research objects of POA theory are college students. Therefore, the author tries to apply the production-oriented approach to the high school English classroom at the basic education stage, and focuses on designing an oral English teaching model based on the POA theory. The specific research questions are: First, what is the status quo of high school oral teaching? Second, how can we construct an oral teaching model that meets the curriculum standards? In the research, the author selected the students from four classes of the second grade in two schools as the research objects. It mainly uses a questionnaire and an interview, combined with the relevant standards and requirements in the English curriculum standards,to investigate the current situation of oral English teaching in high school English teaching, find out the existing problems, and explore the causes of these problems. Finally,a targeted teaching model for optimizing oral English teaching is proposed.Through investigation and research,it is found that the current high school English teaching mainly has the following problems: First, teachers and students are not satisfied with the current oral English teaching.Students can complete an exam paper excellently, but they cannot express their opinions accurately and freely in English, nor can they communicate with others without difficulties.Teachers are also dissatisfied with students’ oral performance. Many teachers complain that students are not active or interested in oral learning.Second, compared with General Senior High School Curriculum Standards,it is found that in terms of oral teaching objectives, teaching content, teaching methods and teaching evaluation, oral teaching fails to meet the requirements, and many problems remain to be resolved. The third is about the factors that affect the students’ oral ability, mainly including students, teachers and environmental factors.First, the student factor. Many students lack the motivation to learn spoken English because of the pressure of the college entrance examination. The second is the teacher factor. Many teachers lack oral teaching ability and methods, and cannot effectively guide teaching, and some teachers cannot teach in English. At the same time, teachers’ questioning methods and feedback can greatly affect students’ oral output. The third is environmental factors. Our country’s test-oriented education has directly led to the neglect of oral skills. The school curriculum and the arrangement of teaching materials also restrict oral teaching. At the same time, high school students lack a language environment for learning spoken English, and schools seldom provide students with activities and opportunities to practice spoken English. Finally,in view of these problems and the root causes of the problems, guided by POA theory,a new high school oral English teaching model is designed in order to solve the existing teaching problems, and effectively improve the effect of high school English teaching,so that the students’ oral English ability will meet the requirements of the General Senior High School Curriculum Standards. |
