An Analysis Of Artistic Usage Of Language In Chen Yan’s Leading Actor

As one of the representative work of Chen Yan,born in Shanxi,Leading Actor has ever won the “ 2018 China Book”,the “3rd Shi Naian Literature Prize” and the “10th Mao Dun Literature Prize.The novel takes the protagonist Yi Qin’e’s life experience as the main line,combines the rises and falls of the art of Qinqiang in a special historical background,and portrays a number of vivid characters such as Hu Sanyuan,Hu Caixiang,and Qin Bawa.The novel has a close connection with real life of “nobody” and local culture,presenting a strong realism color.The success of Leading Actor is inseparable from the excellent use of language power.However,as so far is concerned,scholars have studied Leading Actor mostly from the aspects of characters figures,aesthetics,ethics,novel consciousness,etc.Few study is from the perspective of linguistics.Based on the theories of rhetoric and linguistics,this thesis adopts such research methods as literature research,text investigation,and statistical analysis,takes the specific texts of Leading Actor as the research object,and studies its language art from the perspectives of rhetoric and linguistics.This thesis studies Leading Actor from the aspects of phonetic rhetoric,words rhetoric,speech figure application and language style,striving to show Chen Yan’s writing characteristics thoroughly and comprehensively.To explore the phonetic rhetorical art,this thesis studies mainly from overlapping tone,onomatopoeia,syllable harmonious,etc.These rhetorical methods helps the novel to be understood easily and read frequently,making it full of rhythm and musicality.On the aspect of words rhetoric,this thesis studies mainly from the uses of a large number of typical Shanxi dialect,idioms and coarse sayings which are in accordance with the characters’ figures and display the local characteristics and character figures vividly.About the speech figures,the novel not only applies speech figures such as metaphor,parallelism,and interrogation widely,but also repetition,quotation,and exaggeration,some of which are used exclusively,and some of which are used comprehensively.Through analyzing the speech figure types and pragmatic effects in the text,this thesis holds that it enriches the novel contents and enhances artistic performance,reflecting Chen Yan’s special capacity on language control.In the following part,the thesis analyzes Leading Actor’s language styles and its causes,considering that Chen Yan’s languages are plain,popular,concise and lively,which has a close connection with the author’s personal experience,growing environment and cultural literacy.Using the methods of rhetoric and linguistic stylistics to explore the language of Leading Actor can make Chen Yan’s unique language features and styles of Leading Actor become visible and sensible,which may provide certain positive significance for further analysis of the language characteristics and style.
