The source text of the translation report is taken from Chapter Six of “Teaching toward equity – listening and reading” in Making Education Educational: a reflective approach to teaching written by Halvor Hoveid and Marit Honer?d Hoveid.This book is an argument for reflexivity in the act of teaching,which means to acknowledge that intention guides the act of teaching.A Ricoeurian approach to a discussion on teaching as a reflexive and institutional practice provides a timely approach to important questions related to teaching in our day and age.Chapter six of this book mainly introduces the two ways of listening and reading in teaching to achieve educational equality.The report aims to solve translation difficulties in the translation process by Catford’s translation shifts theory.The source text is an informative text,the main difficulty in the translation of it being the long and complex sentences that frequently appear in the text.After analyzing the source text,translation techniques from omission,conversion,to division are adopted by the translator under the general guidance of translation shifts theory.The main content of this report is divided into five parts: first,the introduction to the project,including the background,objectives and significance of it;second,the background of the source text,including the brief introduction to the author,the main content and the language features;third,the guiding theoretic basis of the project;fourth,case study of the translation difficulties and corresponding solutions;fifth,inspiration acquired,lessons learned and problems to be solved in the process of translation.The translator hopes that the translation rendered can provide Chinese scholars engaged in teaching research with relevant references on reflexive teaching.
