A Study On The Translation Of Children’s Picture Books From The Perspective Of The Foregrounding Theory

Abstract/Summary:
Picture books are an important part of children’s literature,which can promote the development of children’s language,emotion,and cognition.Nowadays,more and more foreign picture books have been introduced into China.The author of this article takes Ren Rongrong’s translation of The Cat in the Hat and 1+26 Cats with High Hats as examples according to the foregrounding theory,especially the two important concepts of paradigmatic foregrounding and syntagmatic foregrounding,to make a detailed analysis.In this paper,author adopted case study and textual analysis.Through carefully studying,author concluded three translation principles,which are the principle of equivalence,the principle of aesthetic reproduction as well as the principle of readability.Meanwhile,this paper also concludes the different translation strategies for different foregrounding languages,so as to preserve as much of the foregrounding language of the original text as possible.This article adopts the translation strategy,such as corresponding code and recasting code,to achieve the biggest effect of the original text.The research significance of this paper is to analyze excellent translator’s translation——Ren rongrong.It can provide useful suggestions with translators in our country so as to promote the quality of children’s picture books.What’s more,the study of translation of children’s picture books is still on the margins of academic circles,whether in the East or the West.In short,the study of children’s picture books is feasible and valuable.
