| The aesthetical charm of the literature works lies not only in the messageit conveys, but also in the ways that it is being expressed. In literature works,the language feature that stands out and violates the norms of standard use is theforegrounding language. As translation consists in reproducing the sourcemessage in the closest equivalent both in meaning and in style, it is highlynecessary for the translators to bear the foregrounding language features in mindin the translation process so as to best render the style and the intention of theoriginal works.However, the foregrounding features in translation is sometimesoverlooked or mistaken as the linguistic differences between Chinese andEnglish, which will ultimately lead to the insufficient reproductions of theforegrounding language. The thesis therefore attempts to respond to thefollowing questions: what is necessity of recognizing foregrounding language,how to recognize it and how to represent the foregrounding language in thetarget language.In the first place, this thesis clarifies the concept of the foregrounding and the related theories. Next, it gives an account of the historical background andthe development of foregrounding. And chapter three provides with a carefuldescription of foregrounding from various levels which specifies that not alldeviations and parallelisms can be called foregrounding. Only the prominentfeatures that contribute to the subject can be foregrounded. In this chapter, therepresentation of deviation and parallelism are respectively illustrated. |
