Nan Huai-Chin(1918-2012)is an outstanding contemporary researcher and disseminator of traditional Chinese culture in China. From his works and biographies, people can appreciate his way of merging transcending the world and existing in the world, but there is no precedent for in-depth analysis of him from the perspective of psychology. Therefore, the study adopts the method of psychobiography, using his own writings, poems, and well-known biographies that record his life experience as research materials, based on Eriksson’s Psychosocial Developmental Theory and Adler’s inferiority-transcendence Theory,in-depth analysis of his growth experience from childhood to middle age, trying to reveal the formation and development process of his self-identity,in order to explore the reasons for his way of merging transcending the world and existing in the world. The research found that:(1)In childhood, the family culture of "Cultivation and read to bequeath to the family" and the family environment with traditional cultural atmosphere had a shaping effect on Nan Huai-Chin’s self-identity development.Among them, his father,Nan Yangzhou, who has the spirit of transcending the world and existing in the world, became the object of his childhood. In the environment of traditional school education, his feeling of inferiority caused by his weak physical condition has sought compensation.(2)In adolescence, under the combined effect of the social environment that promoted the use of martial arts to strengthen the body, the active Confucian culture, and the inferiority complex induced by the transfer event,Nan Huaijin turned the object of identification from his father to the ancient heroes, and set up the ambition to serve the country as a soldier, and turning the goal of pursuing a sense of excellence to the improvement of one’s own ability. However, because he was unable to effectively integrate the past identity objects,it was difficult for him to find a balance between transcending the world and existing in the world, which caused him to encounter a crisis of identity development at this stage.(3)In early adulthood,Nan Huai-Chin and Yuan Huanxian met at Lingyan Temple.Under the joint influence of the Zen culture of "achieving ideals without departing from reality" and Yuan Huanxian who advocated Zen of lay Buddhist,Nan Huai-Chin not only found a new identity Objects, but also shifted the goal of pursuing excellence from improving one’s own ability to religion. In this process,he found a balance between transcending the world and existing in the world, and thus completed the integration of self-identity.(4)In the middle of adulthood,in a culturally impoverished social environment,Nan Huai-Chin gradually developed his own unique behavior on the basis of imitating past identification objects.Since then,he has devoted herself to spreading the traditional culture, and will further pursue the goal of excellence Putting it into the common development of the spiritual civilization of all mankind, this is not only a transcendence of past identification objects, but also a transcendence of self.By exploring the development process of Nan Huai-Chin’s self-identity,it is helpful to understand the important role of family environment, cultural atmosphere, social environment and inferiority complex in the formation and development of individual self-identity,which inspires us to pay attention to self-identity from many aspects Healthy growth. |
